Science Fiction in Horror and Fantasy
Author: eawood (https://www.deviantart.com/eawood) Header artwork by: vladmrk
When one thinks of creatures that lurk in the realms of horror and fantasy, an often overlooked detail is how science influences their creation and how action and adventure bring their narrative to life.
Take the case of the Mummy, an age-old concept of fear of the dead coming back to life. To the ancient Egyptians, mummification itself was a form of science rooted in their relig

Of all the questions that have long vexed my mind, and made for so many sleepless nights, has always been the Big One: Why the shorts on the outside of the leotard? At long last, it is with great pleasure that I present intrepid cub reporter and talented new writer, Ariel Williams, who has finally succeeded in getting to the bottom of “Superman’s Underwear.” Please join me in welcoming Ariel to the depthRADIUS (https://www.deviantart.com/depthradius) family.

Okay. This is Tutorial of how to kill an art Block.
(Update 2013! New Tactics! Less Typos!)
There are three ways to kill an Art Block.
The Idol Tactic
Find an Artist who is better than you, a kinda Idol to you.
Now walk through His/her gallery and view the Artwork. But don't only view it, analyze it. Think of how he/she might have drawn it and think of where and why the strokes are like the strokes are. Though its Eeevuhl and forbidden on this lovely site, tracing helps a lot, too. (Just make sure to burn it with fire after you did) But also there, not only trace the outlines. Try to reconstruct the guidelines which used to be there at

Getting Rid of Art Block
Most artists have an art block at some time. Here's what I do to help me when I have one!
1. Combining Animals
Choose two animals (randomly, if you want) from this list and combine them:
-Rabbit -Mouse
-Weasel -Lion
-Koala -Dragon
-Cat -Fox
-Dog -Racoon
-Bear -Deer
-Squirrel -Zebra
-Cyote -Hippo
-Kangaroo -Frog
-Leopard -Penguin
-Owl -Goat
-Sheep -Giraffe

Do you find yourself staring like a zombie at a blank piece of paper on your desk? Do you whip your pencil in a circle to draw a head, erase it, draw it again, and still find yourself dissatisfied and uninspired? Do you long to draw your characters in some crazy or adorable situation but lack the ability to come up with an idea?
Never fear! The Art Block Banisher is here!
This is a list of possible scenarios you can evilly dump your favorite characters into, whether they belong to you or someone else. So think about a few favorite characters, pull out a pencil and paper, and let's go!

Artistic self-esteem.This is a message to anyone who´re feeling bad about their "artistic self-esteem" or lost the motivation to keep going with art. But of course, anyone can read and interpret this! Feel free to leave a comment if you want to add something. You´re also free to share this!
Be "happy" with your art? Well... Not saying that you should stay satisfied with all your art so you´ll never improve. It´s more about being confident with the one you are as an artist. The artist inside of you. ~
Feel good about your art just the same way as you should feel confident with being yourself as a person. Draw what you wan

'Life Drawing 5' by algaegoblin (https://www.deviantart.com/algaegoblin)
Do you know how to sketch human figures but do you want to refine your anatomy skills? Or do you not know anatomy at all and you are tired to trust your imagination? Did you notice you create disproportions in your drawings?
If you are aspiring artists and you already have your own style, you might as well believe you have no need of a guide, but you are wrong. Before exaggerating human proportions and begin to have your own style, you first have to know the basics.
This little guide is the result of an accurate research and 5 years of high school of art, and it's created for all those who want to learn s

Making Over Your Sketching Tools - Pencils !
Artist's ToolboxUsually while sketching with graphite or carbon pencils, we feel the absence of something in the quality of the strokes we get. This means that the pencil you're using, doesn't give an edge to your sketching experience. This is what I usually have felt while sketching portraits, animals and sceneries. To cure this absence we can do a quick makeover of our tools of sketching! This tutorial will help you getting to know more methods if making over your pencils . so that they give the unexpected, but great results ! Here's the index to what all will be explained in this tutorial :

Paint Tool Sai vs. FireAlpaca - Review
Artist's Toolbox
Hi guys! Welcome to another one of my articles, this time I'll be giving you a thorough review about two very similar art programs, Paint Tool SAI and FireAlpaca.
Anyone who's just starting out with digital art might be asking themselves, Should I pay for Photoshop? Should I use a crack? Should I look for a free art program?
There are some of those like me, who kinda can't really afford expensive programs, I luckily got my PS in a package that came with my Bamboo Tablet. Luckily, FireAlpaca is free, and Paint Tool Sai has a portable version which is free.
